Things To Know

Welcome to our newest members: Gene Buckley, Andy Johnson, and Carol Malouf

Best of Luck to our new Programs Co-Chair, Charley Devany, who has agreed to organize the June Induction Dinner and the Holiday Party.

For those of you who may have missed the article: when Lion Wayne Stahl was a member of Cranbury’s first Boy Scout Troop, he was told by his Scoutmaster in the mid-1920’s, that he had become an Eagle Scout. It was discovered by the Boys and Leaders of Troop 52 that Lion Wayne had never received the official recognition of becoming an Eagle Scout. Although it is 75 years late, the paperwork was submitted and Lion Wayne has been made an Eagle Scout in troop 52. Our heartfelt congratulations are extended to Lion Wayne, as he receives this honor.

The March 20th meeting has been designated “Spouse Night”. We are happy to announce that Katie Stannard will perform her Irish step dancing techniques for us. As you all know, we have certain space limitations, so it is fairly important to know how many spouses will attend, so please make sure you sign the sheet going around at the meetings. The room will only accommodate 60 people, and we average 35-40 members per meeting. Therefore we can only accept the first twenty guests for dinner. Additional guests may arrive after dinner a/a 8PM to attend the demonstration, but in standing room capacity only, as space permits.

The Lion of the Year Dinner Meeting will be April 17th, and will be a joint meeting with the other Clubs in Zone 1. This year’s Lion of the Year dinner will be hosted by South Brunswick at Pierre’s in Dayton. Spouses are invited. Since we are going to another Club, we will need to give a “headcount”. The dinner choices will be Roast Beef, Chicken Francaise, or Salmon; cost will be $20 per person. Please use the sign-up sheet, which will begin going around at the March 6th meeting.

The State Convention will be held at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Cherry Hill, NJ on May 16 through 18, 2002. There will be expanded Hospitality Room Services and a Pin Trading Event. We would like to send at least 7 delegates to the convention. All Members wishing to attend the State Convention should see Lion Andy Jost.

The five Lions signs you see as you enter Town, are beginning to look a “little worn”, and the Board has voted to rehab the signs. The structures (posts and cross members ) will be painted or replaced as needed and new signage will be installed. This repair work will begin when the weather is better in April; an actual date will be determined shortly. The job will need about 10 volunteers. If you’d like to volunteer for this work, please contact Lion Mike Kaiser.

Lion Walt Caldwell has begun planning for the 4th Annual Cranbury Lions Golf Classic. It will be held at the Cranbury Golf Course on Monday, June 3, 2002.   Additional information will be out shortly. Walt will be in need of volunteers to help with the Golf Outing; if you can provide assistance in selling Hole Sponsors, getting golfers, or obtaining prize donations, please contact Walt.

The Cranbury Lions will sponsor our Third Annual Trenton Thunder Game at Riverside Stadium. As always, the entire Town is invited. We have blocked 100 tickets, and can get additional, if we sell out early. The tickets are @$8 . The difference from past years is that this year we are only doing seats, rather than the more expensive picnic area. The game date is Saturday, August 10th. It’s not too early to reserve your tickets today!

Reminders

There are still many of you who have e-mail capability, but are still receiving The Jargon via regular mail. Please notify the Editor of your e-mail address by phone or via e-mail at BobV@cranbury.org. Your e-mail address will not be distributed outside of the Club, and will only be used for The Jargon and other necessary Club business. Your participation in this program benefits all of us. Thank you.

The Cranbury Lions Club Directory of Members has been placed on a secured page on the website, and can be printed directly from the site when needed. All members have been given the appropriate passwords to gain access. If you have forgotten the logon and/or password, or if you were not at the meeting where the security codes were given, please contact our Information and Technology Chair, Lion Dave Shaffer, at daves@cranbury.org, and request the access information.

Any member who learns of the sickness or death of another member, or in a member’s family, or any other similar incident or emergency, should contact Bob Virgadamo to activate the “phone tree”, so that all members may be notified.

Let’s help our Program Co-Chair, Frank Marlowe. We all come in contact with someone interesting on a regular basis; when you do, or if you have any suggestions for speakers, please give Frank a call.

Advertising has become a major fundraiser, and fundraising is everyone’s responsibility. Please provide a helping hand by directing all advertising leads to Lion Bob Virgadamo at BobV@cranbury.org.

The regular meeting schedule will be interrupted, temporarily, in January 2003. January 1st  is the First Wednesday. For the month of January 2003, only, the Cranbury Lions Meeting Schedule will be the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, January 8th an 22nd. The Board Meeting will be January 7th. This early notification will be repeated in the future..
