The 8th Annual New Jersey Lions State Convention is being held this year May17-19, at the Sheraton Atlantic City West Hotel. The event is open to all members. A day badge (for exhibits) is $6. Per person costs range from $18 for an individual event, to $95 for the 3-day package. Hotel costs are separate ($90 per night). For more information, contact President Tom Reilly.
The annual Drug Free Fair will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2001. As in years past, the Cranbury Lions will have a booth. As the date approaches, a sign-up sheet will be passed around at meetings for volunteers to man the booth during the day; anyone who is unable to make a meeting can volunteer by contacting Committee Chairperson Richard Stannard.
The East Brunswick Lions Club will be having their Annual Golf Outing on May 30, 2001. The fee for this event is $90. Anyone interested in playing in this golf outing should contact Walton Caldwell.
The Third Annual Cranbury Lions Golf Classic will be held on Monday, June 4, 2001, at the Cranbury Golf Club. This our major annual fundraiser and all members are encouraged to attend. This event is especially suited for entertaining your business friend and associates, as well as friends and neighbors who might be interested in joining the Club. The fee for this event is $125 per person, which will include greens fees, golf cart, lunch, and dinner. The game format will be a 4-man team scramble. There will be a shotgun start at 1PM and a refreshment cart will be around throughout the day. All Lions and their spouses (and guests) who do not play in the Classic are encouraged to join us for dinner; the cost for dinner is $25 per person. Walton Caldwell will be contacting the Golf Committee to provide assignments, but additional help in obtaining Corporate and Hole Sponsors is always needed. Please contact Walt for additional information.
Lions Clubs International is a major sponsor of the Special Olympics and provides all the athletes with an eye screening. This year the screening will be done on June 1-3, 2001, at the College of New Jersey in Ewing Township. Volunteers are needed for help with this very worthy cause. If you can give your time, please call Bob Virgadamo for additional information.
The First Annual Lions Family Picnic will be held in Village Park from 1PM 6PM on Sunday, June 10, 2001. Members are encouraged to invite prospective members and their families. Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato & macaroni salads, watermelon and beverages will be provided. There will be games and activities. The cost is anticipated to be approximately $15 per adult and $5 per child. It would be helpful, in the planning process, if everyone could contact Paul Mucciarone, to advise him approximately how many adults and children you expect to bring along.
The Second Annual Trenton Thunder Baseball Picnic will be on Sunday, August 12, 2001. This Lions Activity is open to all Cranbury residents, their families and friends. Tickets are $27 per adult/$22 per child and includes admission to the Park, seating in the Picnic Area (3rd Base Side), and, a 90-minute all-you-can-eat buffet starting 30 minutes before game time. The buffet includes soda, BBQ ribs, hamburgers, hotdogs, tossed salad, pasta salad, baked beans, pretzels, potato chips, cookies and assorted melons. Beer can be purchased at the reduced rate of $2.75, per. The picnic area holds 150 people, so put your group together and reserve your seats early. For ticket information call Bob Virgadamo.
Reminders
If you have e-mail capability, but are receiving The Jargon via regular mail, please notify the Editor. If we can send The Jargon out via e-mail, the reduction in postage can save over $300 in our annual operating expenses. Your e-mail address will not be distributed outside of the Club, and will only be used for The Jargon and other necessary Club business. Your participation in this program benefits all of us.
Cranbury High School Seniors are now beginning to hear from the colleges of their choice. Members are encourages to advise these High School Seniors that interest free education loans are available from the Cranbury Lions Club. For information please contact Dennis Kennedy, our Club Treasurer.
It is time to start thinking about the 2001-2002 selection of Officers. Members are encouraged to apply for all positions including President, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, and two-year Directors. Lion Tamer and Tail Twister may also be available. The Search Committee will consider all volunteers and nominations. A sign-up sheet will be at the April meetings.
The Cranbury Lions have been chosen to sponsor a Super 50-50 at Waterfront Stadium on Saturday June 16, 2001. Last years 50-50 was one of our biggest fundraisers. We need as many volunteers as we can get to sell tickets at the game. Admission is free and the club will pick up the cost of a hot dog and a beer (or soda) for each ticket seller. Members may bring someone along, just so long as they are willing to sell tickets and are at least 18-years old. A sign-up sheet will be passed at the May meetings.
