Speaker:
Congratulations to Past President Tom Reilly who has been awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest award in Lionism! This honor has been awarded to Tom for his dedication to the principles of Lionism at both the local and District levels.
The Board of Directors has agreed to make advertising boosters a fundraising priority for this fiscal year. As Lions, fundraising is what we do, in order to give back to the community. We are eighty members strong, and if each member can bring in only one new advertiser this year, we can raise more than $8000. Please provide a helping hand by directing all advertising leads to Lion Gene Buckley on-line at genebuck@hotmail.com
The make-up game for the Trenton Thunder 50/50 was held on July 17, and through the efforts of eight hearty Lions working in that oppressive heat, the Club made $643.00. A great deal of thanks to Lions Andy Jost, Greg Overstreet, Rich Pape, Tom Reilly, Dave Shaffer, Dave Stout, Bob Virgadamo, and Bob Wood.
About sixty people attended the Cranbury Lions Second Annual Picnic, which was held at the Cranbury Swim Club a great time was had by all. Attaboys to our Fellow Lions who brought prospective new members. And, a laurel and hardy handshake to Lion Joe Carroll and his wife, Suzanne, for planning and hosting this event.
Frank Marlowe has been our Program Chair for a few years, now, and has done quite an excellent job lining up speakers for our bi-monthly meetings. You can all imagine how difficult it can be, finding 20 speakers per year that will be of relative interest to all our Members! We all come in contact with someone interesting on a regular basis. When you do, or if you have any suggestions for speakers, please give Frank a call, or e-mail him at marlowe@cranburynj.com .
The 2002-03 USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum will be held in Fort Worth, Texas on September 19-21, 2002. Reservation can still be made. Anyone wishing to attend should notify Lions Tom Reilly or Bob Virgadamo.
Reminders
Remember that summer attire, including shorts, is permissible at the August meeting.
We ask that all members
check the Cranbury Lions Club Directory of Members, which has been placed on a secured
page on the website, and submit all corrections, additions, and other changes to Lions
Dave Shaffer. The Directory can be printed from the site when needed. All members have
been given the appropriate passwords to gain access. If you have forgotten the logon
and/or password, or if you were not at the meeting where the security codes were given,
please contact Information and Technology Chair Dave Shaffer, at daves@cranbury.org, or Lion Bob Virgadamo at bobv@cranbury.org, and request the
access information. Members who do not have computer access can obtain a copy of the
Directory From Dave at the August or September meetings.
There are still many Lions who have e-mail capability, and are still receiving The Jargon via regular mail. Since we started sending the newsletter via e-mail, we have saved over $400 in postage expense. Now, the new postage increase, we will be spending or saving even more, so we ask that everyone with e-mail capability, please provide the Editor with your e-mail address by phone or via e-mail at BobV@cranbury.org. Your participation in this program benefits all of us; your e-mail address will not be distributed outside of the Club, and will only be used for The Jargon and other necessary Club business. Thank you.
Any member who learns of the sickness or death of another member, or in a members family, or any other similar incident or emergency, should contact Lion Bob Virgadamo to activate the phone tree, so that all members may be notified.
PLEASE NOTE: Our regular meeting schedule will be
interrupted, temporarily, in January 2003. January 1st is the First Wednesday. For the month of January
2003, ONLY, the Cranbury Lions Meeting Schedule will be the 2nd and 4th
Wednesdays, January 8th an 22nd. The Board Meeting will be January 7th.
This early notification will be repeated in the future..
Bob
Perrine (Cranbury Elms) and Ed Lawson (5 S. Main)
