Our Interactive Member Discussion is suspended for January. All Members are asked to suggest topics for future discussions; please give your suggestions to President Walt, or Lion Frank Marlowe.
Our
Annual Pancake Breakfast, which was held on December 5th, was a
blowout success – we raised (or will have raised, when all the “missing ticket”
receipts are in) nearly $4000, which included: Santa Pictures (thanks to Lion
Jim on camera, and especially to Santa (Lion Roy) and all his elves), one of
our biggest Pancake Breakfast 50/50’s, ever (the lucky winner went home with
$228!), Placemat ads, and the sale of extra provisions. Kudos to all our
members for their efforts to make the tickets a sell-out, and a laurel and
hardy handshake to Lion
For the fourth year in a row, we worked with the US Marines on the ‘Toys for Tots’ Drive. We would like to thank the folks at the Post Office, 1st Constitution Bank (3 locations), and PNC Bank for being collection points this year. We would especially like to thank the hundreds of people who donated more than a thousand toys – Yes! More than a thousand, including cash donations! This was our largest drive, yet, and three more people have asked by to be included as “collection points” next year. Thank you, all, for helping to make the holidays a little better for those who need it.
The Holiday Meeting and Dinner Dance at the Bog Restaurant was a fairly successful party, with 53 attending. Ultimate Sounds DJ’s did a fantastic job with the musical choices, this year, and the new layout at the Bog was a pleasant surprise. Of course, a vote of thanks goes to Hagerty the Florist for continuing the tradition of providing all the poinsettias for the tables.
As has been customary for decades, Lion Don Jo Swanagan and a couple of carloads of volunteer judges went driving around one cold evening, and chose the best decorated house (or houses) in each of the Township’s neighborhoods. A Happy Holiday thanks to Lion Don and his crew, and to Hagerty the Florist for the poinsettia prizes. For anyone who did not see the “winners” of the Cranbury Lions Annual Holiday Decoration Contest in the Cranbury Press, they were: The Griffins, 1 Silvers Lane So; The Faracis, 12 Silvers Lane; The Reifingers, 20 Silvers Lane; The Gordys, 18 Ryan Road; The Maddens, 15 Griggs Rd; The Peases, 4 Scott Ave.; The Raks, 46 N. Main; The Treleases, 32 Maplewood Ave.; The Maxwells, 1 Oak Lane; The Miezins, 6 Danser Dr.; The Mentos, 1 Chamberlin Ct.; The Singhs, 17 Bodine Dr.; The Scotts, 109 N. Main; The Scheers, 64 Petty Rd.; The Henners, 51 Petty Rd.; The Petrucellis, 174 Plainsboro Rd.; The Zieglers, 9 Prospect St.; The Van Siclens, 25 Cranbury Neck Rd.; The Moutenots, 3 Wynnewood Dr.; The Hines, 4 Cubberly Ct.; The Ochors, 15 Washington Rd.; The Kraws, 23 Scottsdale Dr.; The Volantes, 7 Scottsdale Dr.; and the DeLeos of 9 Parkview Rd. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Teddy’s Restaurant and to the Princeton Ballet for their storefront decorations.

President Walt is working with The Hightstown Lions Club for our Annual Joint meeting. No date has been set yet, but will be announced as soon as the meeting has been arranged. As in the past, the joint meeting will use the interactive discussion format, and the topic will be, “How can our two Clubs be more communicative at both the Club and the District levels.”
You may all recall that, in
the past, the Multiple District has arranged with the Devils to do a Lions
Night, and $5 per ticket on the already reduced ticket price, was donated back
to each Club. Lion Joe Carroll has reminded us that, alas, there is no
professional hockey season (at this time) due to contractual disputes.
Therefore there will be no Lions Club nights scheduled for this year. Lion Joe
has found out that should a modified season of some sort come about, the Devils
would try to schedule a Lions Club night. But in an effort to promote
camaraderie in the Club, Lion Joe has suggested that we organize an informal
trip to

Lion Doug Pearce, the Chairperson of the Golf Committee, has
announced that the Cranbury Lions’ Seventh Annual Golf Outing will be at the

We have received our dates for our annual Trenton Thunder Baseball fundraiser and Club Outing:
We were, once again, lucky enough to get a game to hold a
50/50 fundraiser. While it may be early for this fundraiser, for your
information, we have been given a Friday night game (
We have also gotten the dates for our Annual Trenton Thunder
Outing – Saturday, August 27th, between the Thunder (Yankees) and
the Binghamton Mets. We have limited seating, on the first base side, but can
add tickets if our allotment sells out early enough. It is NOT too early to
reserve these tickets. And remember, the tickets are available to all Lions,
their families, friends and neighbors. For reservations, contact Lion
The Cranbury Lions Club is in search of new fund raisers – different, entertaining, and fun. Some excellent ideas have been presented, among which are an antique car rally, a Halloween party, a casino night, Bingo, an art auction, and a cruise; the Board of Directors would appreciate input from our membership on these ideas. Any member who has a fundraising idea should share the idea with President Walt. The list of potential fundraisers, and the input from interested Lions, will be discussed at a Board of Directors meeting, and presented to the general membership at a regular meeting.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED –we need to know who will be interested in holding
a can for the White Cane Days. All interested members, should please contact
President Walt, ASAP.
Reminders
Frank Marlowe has been our Program Chair for a few years
now, and has done quite an excellent job lining up speakers for our meetings
each month. You can all imagine how difficult it can be, finding 12 speakers
per year that will be of relative interest to all our Members! We all come in contact with someone
interesting on a regular basis. When you
do, or if you have any
suggestions for speakers, please give Frank a call, or e-mail him at marlowe@cranburynj.com . Additionally, Frank
will take all members’ suggestions for interactive discussion nights.
It is important that we increase our fundraising capability
without requesting money from our small community over and over again. With
over 300 commercial locations in our immediate area, the website is one of the
easiest and best fundraisers we have. We ask every member to please try to
bring in at least one advertiser per year. Refer all advertising leads to Lions
