Please welcome to our newest Lion, John Corr.
We would like to acknowledge our Fellow Lions who have contributed to the community as Cranbury Lions for a quarter of a century or more. At this time we would like to congratulate Joe Konrad (50), Jack Bloom (45), Bill Eller (40), Don Jo Swanagan (40), and Mason Blaich (25). Thank you, gentlemen, for remembering that We Serve.
Effective with the September 4th meeting, the summer dress code is suspended, and normal business attire is required.
Cranbury Day is
September 7th! Lions Don Herr And Roy Reinhardt need Grillers, Servers,
Runners, 50/50 Sellers and a couple of members to man the Ice Cream Cart. A sign up sheet
has been circulating and will go around again at the September 4th meeting.
There is no such thing as too many volunteers at this fundraiser! Please come out, even
for an hour or two, and help make our food stand the success it has been in the past.
The Dedication of the Cranbury Lions Todd Beamer Memorial will be on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 11:00AM. The date is significant, since it was on that date, in 2001, it was confirmed that Todd Beamer was the leader of the anti-terror resistance on Flight 93. For those that may not know, the tree has been judged, by professionals, to be in deep shock. In spite of how it looks, it is not dead, and may survive the winter. Since the tree has the capacity to be magnificent, we have no choice other than to see if its natural defenses take it through the winter. If the tree does not bud next spring, it will be replaced. All Lions are being asked and encouraged to attend this dedication.
The selection of Committee Chairpersons have been completed, and the new list follows at the end of this issue of The Jargon (after our advertisers). Please keep the list for reference. We ask that all members select a committee on which they would like to work and contact the Chairperson to volunteer your services.
The Board of Directors has agreed to make advertising boosters a fundraising priority for this fiscal year. As Lions, fundraising is what we do, in order to give back to the community. We are eighty members strong, and if each member can bring in only one new advertiser this year, we can raise more than $8000. Please provide a helping hand by directing all advertising leads to Lion Gene Buckley on-line at genebuck@hotmail.com. For those in search of a committee, please call Gene. He has some great ideas, and could use four or five volunteers.
The 2002-03 Treasurers Report and Annual Operations Budget follows, as separate items (it should print out on four pages after the Chairperson List). The budget was distributed for general review at the August meeting; it will be voted on at the September 4, 2002 meeting.
Reminders
We ask that all members
check the Cranbury Lions Club Directory of Members, which has been placed on a secured
page on the website, and submit all corrections, additions, and other changes to Lions
Dave Shaffer. The Directory can be printed from the site when needed. All members have
been given the appropriate passwords to gain access. If you have forgotten the logon
and/or password, or if you were not at the meeting where the security codes were given,
please contact Information and Technology Chair Dave Shaffer, at daves@cranbury.org, or Lion Bob
Virgadamo at bobv@cranbury.org,
and request the access information. Members who do not have computer access can obtain a
copy of the Directory from Dave at the September meetings.
If you have e-mail capability, and are not receiving The Jargon via e-mail please provide the Editor with your e-mail address by phone or via e-mail at BobV@cranbury.org. Your e-mail address will not be distributed outside of the Club, and will only be used for The Jargon and other necessary Club business. Thank you.
Frank Marlowe has been our Program Chair for a few years now, and has done quite an excellent job lining up speakers for our bi-monthly meetings. You can all imagine how difficult it can be, finding 20 speakers per year that will be of relative interest to all our Members! We all come in contact with someone interesting on a regular basis. When you do, or if you have any suggestions for speakers, please give Frank a call, or e-mail him at marlowe@cranburynj.com .
Any member who learns of the sickness or death of another member, or in a members family, or any other similar incident or emergency, should contact Lion Bob Virgadamo to activate the phone tree, so that all members may be notified.
PLEASE NOTE: Our regular meeting schedule will be interrupted, temporarily, in January 2003. January 1st is the First Wednesday. For the month of January 2003, ONLY, our Meeting Schedule will be the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays January 8th and 22nd. The Board will meet on January 7th.
