1.         ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP

Membership in the Club shall be limited to all persons, male or female, over the age of eighteen (18) years, who reside in Cranbury Township, and non-residents whose principal civic interests are in the Township of Cranbury.

 

2.   TYPE OF MEMBERSHIP

All Members shall be classified within one of the following five (5) Types of Membership:

A.      Active – Each Member shall be classified an Active Member, unless otherwise classified by action of the Board of Directors, and shall pay the full amount of dues, which may, from time to time, change, as approved and directed by the Board.

B.     Member-At-Large – A Member-At-Large is a Member, in good standing, so classified by unanimous action by the Board of Directors because he has legitimate reason, or reasons, for failing to attend a majority of the Regular Meetings, and, upon such unanimous action by the Board, said Member-At-Large shall be responsible to pay the equivalent of half-dues, whatsoever they may be at any given time, as approved and directed by the Board.

C.     Honorary – An Honorary Member is a Member who has provided exceptional service to the Club and to the community for no less than twenty-five (25) years, and has been so classified by the unanimous action of the Board of Directors.

D.     Privileged – A Privileged Member is a Member who has been a Lion, in good standing, for no less than fifteen (15) years, and who, due to illness or infirmity, or advanced age, or other legitimate reason, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, must relinquish his active classification. The classification of any Member as a Privileged Member shall be made through the unanimous action of the Board of Directors, and said Privileged Member shall be exempt from the payment of all dues.

E.     Special – Special Membership shall be reserved for members of the clergy, or any other member of the community, who in the opinion of the Board of Directors shall present an unusual circumstance for such Special membership. The classification of any Member as a Special Member shall be made through the unanimous action of the Board of Directors.

3.   All references to time in years in the above Sections C and D, of the above Paragraph 2 – Types of Membership, may be modified, for or towards any individual Member, based on extreme extenuating circumstances, and by unanimous action of the Board of Directors.

 

4.   ELECTION

A.  Membership shall be acquired by invitation only.

B.     A prospective Member shall be sponsored by a Cranbury Lion, (hereinafter known as the Sponsoring Member), in good standing.

C.     The Sponsoring Member shall obtain a signed invitation, in the form of a completed application form, from the prospective member, together with the then current, prescribed membership fee, and submit same to the Chairperson of the Membership Committee and/or directly to the Board of Directors.

D.     The Board of Directors may approve such membership, at its discretion. Upon approval, the Prospective Member is then eligible for induction into the Club.

E.     Transferred and reinstated Members shall be approved in the same manner.

 

5.   EXPULSION

A.      Attendance – the Board of Directors may, but is not required to, expel from the Club, any member who, without acceptable cause, absents himself from four consecutive Regular meetings.

B.     Financial – If a member’s dues become delinquent for more than two consecutive quarters:

i.      The Treasurer shall send a Final Notice of Delinquency, as well as a follow-up notice, within two weeks thereafter.

ii.   If no reply is forthcoming from the delinquent member, or if dues remain unpaid, for a time period of sixty (60) days from the date of the First Notice, forfeiture of Membership shall be recommended by the Treasurer to the Board of Directors, and the Board may, but is not required, to expel such delinquent member.

C.  Conduct – A member may be expelled from the Club, if in the opinion of the Board of Directors, such Member has exhibited conduct unbecoming a Lion. Such expulsion shall be effected by either:

i.   Unanimous action by the Board of Directors at a regular meeting, or,

ii.      A special Board of Directors meeting convened for such purpose, or,

 iii.      By a three-fourths (3/4) vote of the Members present at a Regular meeting.

D. In any of the aforesaid events of this Paragraph 5, the Member involved shall be given ample, written notice of the intended action, and the opportunity to be heard.

 

6.   RESIGNATION

A.      The resignation of a Member shall become effective upon written notice to the President and/or the Secretary of the Club. Such resignation will be considered “in good standing”, provided there is no outstanding fiscal indebtedness to the Club.

B.     At the request of the departing Member in good standing, the Club Secretary shall prepare, over the Club President’s signature, a letter of introduction to another Lions club.
