Cranbury Board of Health

A local board of health is required by state law. The general powers and duties of the board are described in the New Jersey State Statutes (NJSA 26:3-1).

The following areas of responsibility are delegated to the Board of Health:1) protecting the local water supply, (i.e. approving wells and septic systems), 2) licensing and regulating sanitary conditions of restaurants, boarding houses, day care centers and hotels, 3) promoting health standards in housing 4) controlling and regulating sanitary practices, specifically garbage and waste control 5) monitoring and regulating the safety and quality of food, 6) investigating and abating nuisances such as noise, odors, weeds, etc. Besides these duties, the board develops, monitors, enforces, reviews and recommends local health policies and adopts ordinances.

The Cranbury Township Board of Health was established in 1963. It is comprised of five members appointed by the Township Committee who serve for terms of three years.

The Board of Health meets in the Township Offices at 7:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month. Unless noticed otherwise, these meetings will take place in the Cranbury Public Library meeting room. There is no meeting in August.
